How To Make Chia Seed Kombucha

Chia seed Kombucha is a cheap, easy-to-make, and healthy DIY Kombucha drink that you can enjoy at any time of the day. In this chia seed Kombucha recipe, you will need chia seeds and any flavored Kombucha that has finished first and second fermentation.

Kombucha is a healthy fermented beverage that mainly undergoes two fermentation processes namely first fermentation (F1) and second fermentation (F2). During the first fermentation, the sweet tea is converted to Kombucha by the Kombucha culture or SCOBY. After completing the first fermentation, Kombucha undergoes second fermentation for flavoring and carbonation. If you are homebrewing Kombucha and would like to flavor it by yourself for a more personalized taste, you may check our complete guide on second fermentation here.

Instructions

  • Add chia seeds and Kombucha to a masonjar
Add 3 tbsp. of chia seeds to a mason jar.  Use a slightlylarge mason jar because chia seeds will expand as they hydrate. Next, add 1 cupof flavored Kombucha to the jar. Then, stir the mixture with a spoon.
  • Stir every 10 minutes
Let the chia seeds soak in the flavored Kombucha liquid for 10minutes before stirring. Chia seeds can get sticky as they absorb moisture soyou need to stir them to prevent them from clumping. If the chia seeds clump, they may not plump up and will remain hard. Overall, it takes 20 minutes andmore to hydrate all the chia seeds.
  • Serve and enjoy
You can drink your chia seed Kombucha as soon as the seeds havehydrated. You may also chill your chia seed Kombucha first to make it morerefreshing.

How to level up the taste

Chia seeds do not affect the taste of Kombucha at all so you can incorporate various extra ingredients to level up the taste of chia seed Kombucha.

To make sure that your chia seed Kombucha tastes great, we suggest using flavored Kombucha only. You can always use plain Kombucha, however, flavored Kombucha offers a more appealing taste, especially for newbie drinkers.

You can also add your favorite juice to elevate the taste. You can add any store-bought juices like orange juice, lemon juice, and more as long as they suit your taste. The juice can add sweetness and an additional hint of flavors to your chia seed Kombucha.

Adding honey before serving can also make the drinking experience more enjoyable, especially for first-time Kombucha drinkers. If you like, you can also add fresh fruit slices or fruit puree for a fruity and fun twist.
